Rapid, point-of-care diagnosis of stroke will lead to prioritisation of stroke patients ensuring that they will gain faster access to brain tissue-saving thrombolysis or thrombectomy. For every 15 mins saved in the treatment of stroke patients, sufferers can expect to benefit from an additional month of life, free from disability.
Our technology also offers the parallel benefit of being able to rule out those patients showing similar symptoms to stroke, but not actually having a stroke. These stroke mimics can represent as many as 50% of all suspected stroke patients being treated in emergency units. These patients unnecessarily occupy limited and expensive beds in hospitals. Thus, identifying such mimics would alleviate a major drain on critical care resources and budgets.
